About the about the REaD Hot scheme scheme.

In September 2007, BookTrust and the DfES are working together, in association with Scholastic, to deliver a major new initiative to promote reading for pleasure in Year 7. Every Year 7 pupil in England has been given the opportunity to select a book from a list of titles, several of them award winners, selected by a panel of independent experts. The widest possible range of books has been chosen, to take into account the individual interests and characteristics of children, and to reflect the range of reading ability and existing enthusiasm for reading in Year 7.

The scheme is easy to administer. A magazine and the student section of this website supports selection of their book. The magazine has a tear-off back page, on which the children will mark their selection and write their name and class. The organiser gathers in the orders, adds up the number of books and then submits their consolidated order by phone, by post or, using this website, online.

The scheme is also easy to promote. Posters and BookTalk notes have been supplied as well as the magazines and websites.

Matching the right book to the right child isn't always easy. Children can try the REaD HOT BOOK MATCH which will recommend the right book for them or browse our book list, read about the author, play games and read chapter extracts so they can see which title excites them most. Once they've chosen you can place your order here.
